In approximately one year I will be finishing my degree and with that will come new opportunities. I decided that I will also use this year to photographically document my city, my Chattanooga. To accomplish this I set myself some rules. The first rule is to go on a photo shoot at least once a week, not counting finals weeks. Rule two is that I am documenting my city, so I have to take pictures of more than just my family and backyard. Rule three is that I have to explore. I plan on finding new places to take pictures and in the process maybe learn a little more history.
In the process I will have destinations to document. As of right now I have documented the Chattanooga Zoo, Miller Park, and Walnut Street Bridge/Park/Frasier Avenue area. Tomorrow I plan on going the Art distract and explore the remains of Chattanooga’s first Steel mill on the river. Few people know much about it even though it was rediscovered about 30 years ago. I also plan on spending some time at the various battlefields. I am also thinking about collections that will spring up across multiple outings such as the Trees of Chattanooga or the Architecture of Chattanooga. I hope to document a couple of buildings that still have old painted advertisements on them.
In other news today marks the official launch of the Jared R. Byer Daily Photograph Blog. You can find a link to it at the top of the page or you can see a thumbnail of todays picture at the top of the sidebar on the upper right. The blogging platform I am using for it is called pixelpost. I can write about switching to wordpress and integrating it with pixel post if anybody is interested – it is very technical.
You can find out more information by following these links.

I plan on it. That is why this next 12 months is going to be focused on the Nooga area – but not exclusively.
I’m looking forward to seeing the photoblog! And who knows, maybe in the not-too-distant future you’ll have some other places you’ll want to document…
