on Jun 12th, 2007My Trip to “The City”

Some places are special, really really special. I grew up in a city like this. Chattanooga has a wonderful charm. On top of the charm Chattanooga has history. I like history, not just the history of Chattanooga but history in general. I don’t just mean studying history but having history, I like places that have history. I suppose everywhere has a history whether it was recorded by man or not, but some places have a history for many people. You can walk the streets of downtown Chattanooga or stroll down the riverfront and feel it. New York City (just The City from here own) is another place that has a lot of history. I know I have not updated in a little while but recently I had my much anticipated return trip to The City. My first trip involved exploring a section of Manhattan starting at Penn Station and ending up on 5th avenue near an Apple flagship store and passing by Times Square (which interestingly enough no longer is home to the Times Newspaper for which it was named) and the Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink. My return trip included a personal tour, from my lovely girlfriend, of Central Park.

Walking through the streets of The City gives me a magical feeling. Surrounded by nearly countless people; you know you are somewhere very special. I don’t dare compare The City to Chattanooga, although I do believe they share certain things like having a long and important history, for fear of doing neither of them justice. I admit that my visits have been strictly limited to Manhattan I hope I am not out of line in suggesting that Manhattan is very much at the heart of The City. While I was in Manhattan I felt like I was part of something so very much larger than myself. People are everywhere and being alone is an option, not something imposed. Home. The City felt like I always thought home should feel to me. I love Chattanooga and I love the natural beauty and the many wonderful people I have come across here, but some where in me I think that The City is where I am called to be. Not right now and most likely not permanently. However, for part of my life I want to be there, to be a part of the world and New York City is very much the capital of the world in my opinion. I don’t wish to spoil to much but it does seem possible in my near future to make this a reality, and that is all I will say about that right now.

These is an abstract of a longer conversation I wish to write on this topic. I most likely won’t post it here anytime soon, but if you are interested you can message me and I will share when I am done.

I am so glad you feel at home in the city. We will make living there a reality, whether it’s in the way that we have talked about, or another. I would love to live there, and I know that you would love it too.

I am glad also. Now I have to work on the expanded version.

Oh really? Will you let me in on the details of the expanded version?
