on Jan 13th, 2008Chapter 28: In Which Our Hero In His Advanced Age Is Unable to Think of a Short and Interesting Blog Post Title!
I know I can’t get by until May with just my student loans and my tax refund. I therefore had to find employment during this last semester. I had a somewhat conditional if not odd Job Offer before now. The conditions where ones that seemed to me to be unable to be satisfied. On top of that I really didn’t want the job. I had had the job before, and it wasn’t what I would want to do during my last semester of School. So Thursday I went to go see an old friend who I had worked for before. I intended to politely ask her if she needed someone for tax season. Tax season being a time of year I can find a job with out any effort at all. I drop in unannounced at the office in which I was hoping to get a part time tax job. The conversation went something like this.
Her: Jared! How are you doing? I like the beard.
Me: I am doing alright. Working on my last semester of school.
Her: That is great. Do you want a job?
Me: Why yes, I would like a job very much.
Here: Can you start next Thursday?
Me: Why yes I can.
Her: Great.
And that is the story of how I found a part time job for this semester. I didn’t shave and I didn’t have to print out a new copy of my resume. Of course anyone who has worked with me during a tax season knows that of the many things I can do, taxes are something in which I am most skilled. The catch, I really don’t like doing them. I like meeting different people and telling people they are getting money. I don’t like telling people they owe money. I don’t like telling people that I don’t work for free and that they have to pay me. All in all it is an almost even trade.
Friday I went to the eye doctor to get my new prescription. Something I have waited longer to do than I should have. I have entertained some radical thoughts, mostly when I am working with my camera. I often think that my eye glasses are a hindrance to my photography. When it is hot, they get sweety and smudged. They get pushed up on my eye and my focus is not consistent. So I had myself fitted for contact lenses. I was lucky in that for my photography I can use them. If I used my left eye to focus and compose I might not be able to. I was able to do it. I was able to put the contacts in and take them out. I was amazed, it only took me about 3 minutes to take it out and put it in myself for the first time.
Saturday, I went to the big car show with my dad. He doesn’t get to go out very much and I was glad he was able to walk around for a couple of hours. He wasn’t able to do that just a week or two ago. I think i grabbed some interesting car shots. I loved working with my camera and not wearing glasses, it really was so much more natural.
Last night I had diner with my brother and his wife. She cooked some vegetarian chili that was fab. BTW sister, Jacob is a nice name, but I still think you should name him after me. I will be his favorite uncle you know.
Late last night I was online, not sleeping well as usual. I was reading the feeds and I came up on an interesting one. A while back I was searching for other Chattanooga Bloggers and subscribed to the feeds of a couple of interesting ones. Well, I was reading this new post and was so surprised to find out that the author was in one of my classes. We were probably sitting five feet apart in the last class. I told someone yesterday that the blog world was connected in a huge web, and boy was I right.
This Just in: I just got distracted because someone just came on IM real quick and signed off just as fast. As if they saw me and didn’t want to talk. That is ok. Now back to our regularly scheduled blog post – even though these things aren’t actually scheduled.
Today I got a couple of really, uber nice birthday wishes. Thank you – you know who you are. I love and cherish the kindness you have shown to me. I also had some family sing to me. It was sweet. A little flat, but sweet.
So to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, Strumpet, Stephanie, Dad, Grandparents, Mom and Bob, Daniel and Tara. Thank you – you make the world a better place.

ohh darn I meant to pop in here yesterday and say happy birthday too. Soooooo sorry that I am late *hangs her head low in shame*. I hope you had a marvelous day – you know if you lived closer I’d totally pay you to do my taxes.
PS I want a photos of the new you – contacts and a beard and all
Thanks Katy.
I will consider the photos.
Oooo…Sir It…
Beards are sexy.
I would also pay you to do my taxes if I lived in TN. I actually have a LOT of things to do with taxes that have to get fixed because ….well, just because. But, it’s my own fault. I’ll probably be paying someone to just fix everything eventually before mid-April.
And you’re welcome. Thank you for saying Thank you.
But mostly, just thank you for being you.
I think you’re thank you’s were heartfelt and perfect.
Nicely done.
Mine isn’t really. I don’t think so anyway. I think I might make it go bye bye Wednesday. New job on Thursday, so Wednesday would bet he time to do it.
Sorry about the tax problems. I wish I could help you with that. No, thank you.
Wow, I haven’t been to this part of your blog for awhile, I guess, cos I didn’t know this comment was here for me.
It sounds like you don’t like doing taxes.
Exactly why I have tax problems.
